Oklahoma firefighters pension fund raises $5.4M

OKLAHOMA CITY — Oklahoma firefighters will receive $5,400 in retirement payments in the coming months as the state pension fund boosts the retirement contribution for each teamster.

The state also has increased the pension for each firefighter from $20,000 to $24,000 in January, and that will continue in 2018.

The increase comes as Oklahoma is one of a number of states that has cut pensions for firefighters.

Oklahoma Gov.

Mary Fallin has said she wants to “put an end to the death spiral” in Oklahoma and she wants the state to be “a place where everyone can retire at the same time.”
